Cleaning Tip: Have problem with dust in your home or office? When was the last
time you changed or cleaned your furnace filter? A cleaner filter means
cleaner air.
Cleaning
Tip: Work from the top down. When cleaning start at the top and work
your way down. Don't dust the ceiling fan after your swept the floor.
You do not want to repeat any cleaning just because you re-dirty an
item.

Bathrooms - Quick Clean:
If you have more than one bath to clean, keep separate cleaning
supplies in each bathroom, that way you can clean the bath at a moments
notice.
Cleaning the coffee maker:
Pour straight vinegar into it as if you are
making the coffee, no filter is need. Turn coffee maker on as if you
were making a pot of coffee. Repeat this with a new batch of vinegar
until it runs clear of calcium deposits.
Computers: Extending the life of your computer by keeping it clean - Dust around your computers can trap heat inside the machine. If you hear your computers fan running a lot, this could be because it is not getting enough air circulation. Dust accumulates inside the PC Unit, thus if you feel comfortable with opening the PC's Case, you can blow out the dust with compressed air.
Electronics:
Computers and other electronics
make up
a good portion of our office arrangements
and since they
are used so frequently, often become the dirtiest items in the room. Keeping them
clean and dust-free will help ensure a longer - more efficient life.
Due to the delicate nature and expensive costs of electronics, many
cleaning service companies are instructed to "skip" thorough cleaning of
electronics at the request of the client.
So how can you help? Wipe computer screens gently with a
soft microfiber cloth. (One trick is to bring a dryer cloth from home
and wipe your screen.) Blow computer
keyboards out with compressed air. Next, clean the
entire
keyboard by dipping cotton swabs into rubbing alcohol and detailing on
and around all of the keys.
This process will clean and disinfect the
keyboard, and help to halt the spread of germs.
Dust the tops of
printers and computer towers, fax machines and telephones with
microfiber cloths and detail any parts with the cotton swab and alcohol
that don't come into direct contact with the electric components.
Glass Tables: Glass tables are notorious for showing any amount of dust, grease
or grime. They must be cleaned often. Here are three easy
glass-cleaning methods for you to try: hot towel, Windex, and white
vinegar.
Inks: To get ink (even permanent marker and
ball point pen ink) out of vinyl, and other synthetic fabrics, use aerosol hair
spray. Even if an ink mark has been on the
surface for years, spray a small amount
of aerosol hairspray on the spot and dab with a clean white towel. In
seconds, the ink stain is gone. Works on all types of flooring, denim
clothing, photographs (the back if
you make a mistake) cabinets and counter tops, kitchen chairs and
tabletops,
appliances, wall paneling, and many other surfaces. Since all
materials are different, you should test a small area before treating
to
ensure the hairspray won't damage the surface. Aerosol
hairspray will eat acrylic false nails. And, anything with a lacquer
finish will be ruined by aerosol hairspray.
Keyboard Spills: Spills on your Keyboard (non-laptop). 1. Turn off power to your
computer and unplug keyboard if desktop computer. 2. Turn Keyboard
upside down on a towel. 3. After thoroughly drained, turn over and
completely dry if source is not pure water only - but do NOT use a
hairdryer or other heat source. 4. Remove keys if possible. 5. Dip
cotton swab in isopropyl alcohol
and clean any stickiness. 6. Do not rinse keyboard. 7. Allow to
completely dry prior to plugging back in or turning on. If spill
occurs on a Laptop keyboard, you may want to seek the advice of a
computer tech.
Microwave Filth:
Food splatters all over the inside of your microwave and cooks itself on
after time. To easily remove this mess, place a sponge soaked in water in the microwave. Cook on high
heat for 2 minutes, then allow it to sit without opening the microwave
door, for 5 minutes. The filth is now ready to be wiped right off - no
scrubbing - and your sponge is right there!
Plastic Container Cleaning:
Do you ever get stains in your plastic
containers. Here are some quick tips to help remove
those stains:
- Rinse the
item and place directly outside in the sun. Rub a little
Lemon on the container to boost the effect of the sun.
- Fill
the bowl with hot water and drop in a couple of denture tablets or two
Alka Seltzer tablets. Leave for a
couple of hours and when you come back the stains will hopefully be
removed.
- Soak the
container in one part bleach to
two parts of water. Or better yet, substitute White Vinegar for the bleach and increase to 50/50
solution.
- Rub
the container with a baking soda and water paste. Let
sit for about
30 minutes, then wash with dish soap as usual.
Remember
to always rinse and re-wash prior to using again after trying any of
the
above tips.
To avoid staining the inside of
your containers, spray with a no
stick cooking spray before each use. Also, do not cook in the
microwave with any plastic containers or Styrofoam plates. It is best
to only use glass or ceramic dishes in the microwave- and
remember to cover your food before heating.
If you have a troublesome stain that still won't go
away, consider
tossing the container. Plastic can begin to decompose and expose
hazardous chemicals. No plastic is worth risking your health. Just buy a
new piece.
Red Wine Stains: With any
stain, you must act quickly. If there’s a glass of white wine handy,
immediately pour that over the red wine stain. White wine neutralizes
the red wine and will make the stain vanish. With the stain
neutralized, you can throw the item of clothing in with your next load of laundry. Do NOT dry unless stain is completely gone.
Removing
kitchen and
food odors: Soak pure vanilla on a cotton ball
and place in a saucer. Put the saucer in the car or refrigerator to
remove odors. Keep cotton ball out of reach of children as it contains
some alcohol.
Telephone Cleaning
At least once a month, do the following:Telephone receivers can carry a lot of germs so how should you quickly care for this piece of equipment:
The phone body:
Moisten a cloth with rubbing alcohol or dampen a cloth
with water and a few drops of mild dishwashing liquid and wipe the
surface of the telephone. For hard-to-reach spots, such as the spaces
between raised numbers, use cotton swabs dipped in rubbing alcohol. Be
careful not to get any liquid near the hook-switch, speaker, or other
openings.
The handset: Clean
the handset with a cloth soaked with rubbing alcohol; since this is the
part of the phone that touches your face, it is important to disinfect
it. Be very careful not to pour alcohol directly onto the phone. You
can also use premoistened disinfectant wipes to clean the handset.
The cord:
To clean a dirty cord, remove it from the phone, and dampen a cloth
with water and a few drops of mild dishwashing liquid. Rub the cord
down with the cloth, and dry with a second cloth. Make sure the cord is
absolutely dry before you reattach it to the phone.
